Precautions for Using Electric LHD

Date:2026-10-21   Visits:1002

Electric LHD is widely applied in underground mines for loading and hauling tasks, and standardized operation is essential to protect its electrical and hydraulic systems as well as ensure underground safety. A series of precautions must be followed throughout the whole working cycle.

Before startup, a comprehensive inspection should be carried out. Operators need to check the power cable for cracks, abrasion and poor connection, and confirm the cable reel works normally. The hydraulic system shall be checked for oil leakage and abnormal pressure. Brakes, steering, lights and warning devices must be verified to be effective. Any visible defects cannot be ignored before the machine enters the working area.

During operation, operators should keep stable and gentle actions. Sudden start, emergency braking and sharp steering are not recommended, as these actions may cause cable damage and overload the drive motor. The load shall stay within the rated capacity. Overloading will lead to motor overheating and accelerate the wear of hydraulic components. Constant attention should be paid to surrounding conditions in narrow roadways to avoid collisions with tunnel walls and supporting facilities.

Real-time monitoring of equipment status is required while working. Operators need to watch indicators of motor temperature, current and hydraulic pressure. Once abnormal alarm signals appear, the machine shall stop working in time and cut off the power supply for inspection. The cable should be arranged properly to prevent rolling, pulling or twisting during traveling.

After operation, the electric LHD must be parked in the designated safe area. The bucket shall be lowered to the ground, and the power switch is turned off completely. Dust and ore residues on the machine surface should be cleaned to avoid dust accumulation affecting heat dissipation of the motor and electrical cabinets.

Regular maintenance training for operators is also necessary. Staff need to master basic electrical safety knowledge. Strict compliance with these precautions can reduce electrical faults, extend equipment service life and create a safer working environment in underground mining tunnels.
